LONG BRANCH- The Long Branch Arts and Cultural Center and the Long Branch Recreation Department celebrates Black History Through Art during the month of February. A new exhibit, featuring three artists, is located at the Arts Center at 577 Broadway in Long Branch.
The Long Branch artist featured is LaToya Morris. The other artists featured are Tino F. Cook and Harthula Nevling, and their work came from Arthur Pinckney’s Gallery, New Jersey Arts World in Union, NJ. The exhibit is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-4:30pm, Wednesday from 4pm-7pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm.
“The Black History Through Art Exhibit is a visual celebration of African American culture. Represented in this show is a mix of traditional African art, scenes depicting moments in everyday life, abstracts, historic photos, and images of important figures in politics and pop culture that helped shaped the modern world as we know it,” Long Branch Arts Center Coordinator Christine Sullivan said.
The Arts Center will also have a reception for this exhibit the night of February 24th from 6pm to 8pm and will feature the artists, food from “Sutton for the Soul”, music, and more. This event is free and open to the public.
“Diversity and celebrating Black History Month is very important to us. We are proud to showcase a local Long Branch artist with this exhibit,” Mayor John Pallone said.
“The Long Branch Arts and Cultural Center is a very nice addition for the residents of Long Branch. This month’s display of African American Art is amazing. I hope the residents young and old will take advantage and stop by to visit the center,” President of the NAACP and Councilman Bill Dangler said.
